Wardens Report - December 2006
This Year
2006 has been an energetic year for the parish. It started with the arrival of Fr Martyn and Catherine to our parish in January and has not stopped. As we all know at the beginning of the year the parish needed to renew itself. 12 months on, it is fair for us to say that we have taken a number of solid steps forward as we now have a clear vision to “Be a vibrant Christian community which offers a place for reflection, growth and action” and the parish council and our team leaders are working hard to achieve this goal.
We had success in many of our endeavours. Our first CHANT evening was a great success. Fr Martyn introduced a number of new study and prayer groups to the parish including the Julian Meeting. We conducted a number of visits to alternative religious organisations and strengthened our relationship with the various community services located at both our centres, and have welcomed two new tenants for the rectories at the Camp Hill Centre. In addition we have recently completed our planned growth mission.
The mission was completed during the month of November. Ron Cameron led Fr Martyn and the Parish Council through a rigorous process to identify our parish needs and plan for the mission. As you will be aware, the members of the parish have pledged to increase their giving by a further $400 per week which is recognised as a great achievement. As we move into the New Year and seek to establish the budget for 2007 we would like to encourage you all to continue to meet your pledge on a regular basis as this is a critical to the ongoing viability of the parish.
If you have any questions about your giving please feel free to contact Cec Melborn (Parish Recorder) or Lyndal Colbert (Parish Treasurer)
Next Year
2007 will be an important year in the life of our parish. As noted the parish has taken some great steps forward however we need to do the same again in 2007. To meet our vision we need to continue to be a more innovative and creative community. As demonstrated with CHANT and the success of the Julian meetings, it is important that we continue to renew our parish in a way that attracts people back to church. As Jesus adapted his message to the people he was talking to, we too will do the same in 2007.
Over the next twelve months we plan to continue to develop new forms of worship under Fr Martyn’s guidance and target our message at people and families who have little or no contact with church. In addition we will introduce more CHANT events and will also target our efforts towards youth in our parish. All of this will be underpinned by the release of a new marketing image for the parish (which will include a new trading name for the parish community).
As you can see 2007 will be an exciting year and we look forward to working with you all in some shape or form to drive the renewal of our parish community. We would like to thank you all for your efforts over the last 12 months. Your prayers and support has been appreciated. On behalf of the member of the Parish Council we would like to wish you all a merry Christmas and look forward to working with you all to achieve our goals in the new year.
Alistair and Damien
